Here's how my grandma use to tell us about Hajra history. She was from Bajwa family herself.
Hajra's use to be a very isolated clan of jatts who were basically desendents of rajputs mainly from Bikaner region of Rajasthan who use to worship cobra snakes.This clan was very brave, smart, calculated and arrogant at times. They didn't like mixing with others at all and therefore kept themselves aloof from others. They are believed to be a group very handsome and tall men and very very protective of there woman and children. Supposedly a big massacre may have been commited by Sikh Hajra's upon muslim mobs in Sialkot during partition. Hajra's have been deemed as very compassionate, humble yet stern, brave and handsome group of people. This was a clan feared by others due to there fierce fighting abilities and calculated retaliatory actions.
Hajra descedents are scattered around eastern and western Punjab regions Original greater Punjab as Muslim and Sikh jatts. Sialkot, Jhang, Lahore presently has the main concentration of Muslim Hajra jatts.
IN Indian Punjab, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Sultanpur Lodhi are believed to be the main hosts of Hajra Jatts.
Hajra are pure Jatt's and no adulation has occured so far except for some forced mixing occured amongst Muslim Hajra's after partition.
